Help Us Celebrate Our 50^th Anniversary! September 2008 marks the 50^th anniversary of Federal support for accessible educational media. To commemorate this historic event, we’ve set up a “DCMP @ Fifty” page on our Web site where you can access a wealth of information about the history of the DCMP, captioning, and description. Video is a major purveyor of information on the Internet, but what good is it for the deaf and hard of hearing population if it isn’t captioned? With video being ubiquitous over the Internet and in homes across the world, those who are deaf or hard of hearing deserve to share in the enjoyment of Internet videos. But who can caption your video? You can! Visit DCMP's brand new Caption it Yourself resource to learn more! Equal Access in the Classroom DCMP is pleased to announce the release of a new and groundbreaking training production. Entitled Equal Access in the Classroom (EAIC), this production serves as an introductory primer on the benefits of captioning and description and includes teacher testimony supporting the necessity of making accessible educational media available in the classroom. Visit the EAIC section on the DCMP Web site to watch the 12-minute production. More Ways to Share the Equal Access Message DCMP’s Equal Access in the Classroom (EAIC) is now available on popular video hosts YouTube and Google Video. The DCMP strives to make EAIC as easy as possible for equal access advocates to share with others. We encourage you to utilize YouTube and Google Video’s interactive commenting and response tools and to share EAIC with as many others as possible. DCMP Launches an Equal Access Upgrade! The DCMP is proud to announce a major step forward for its streamed media by presenting all new streamed titles in Flash video format! DCMP Level 2 members can choose from a list of new Flash-based titles. If you’re not yet a member and you meet the program qualifications, this is a perfect opportunity to register for a Level 2 DCMP membership so that you (and your students) can experience even better access to educational media. DCMP Launches New “Keys to Access” The DCMP is pleased to announce the release of our Description Key, the first-ever guidelines for describing educational media, and our completely redesigned 2008/2009 edition of the Captioning Key. Both sets of guidelines are available from DCMP’s new “Keys to Access” section at dcmp.org/KeystoAccess. We Need Your Recommendations! The DCMP’s media collection is built on the recommendations of the professionals and families we serve. Welcome to the DCMP Web Site! Would you like to become a member of the DCMP? There is no cost for registration and no user fees for Level 1 or Level 2 Membership (see below). Nonmembers may browse our site and access information services. Existing members, please log in using the link to the left. All existing members will need to complete a Level 2 membership form to reregister before placing orders. Not all existing CMP members will qualify for Level 2 membership under revised DCMP requirements. Membership Levels Member - Level 1: In addition to accessing information services on our site, you can create a username/password for future log-ins, save your Web site preferences, save customized favorite listings of media items from our catalog, and elect to receive newsletters concerning information on new content and services. And it is FREE! (Link to Registration) Member - Level 2: This level of membership includes all the benefits of Level 1 plus full use of our FREE-LOAN accessible media library. This library is to benefit students who are blind, visually impaired, deaf, hard of hearing, or deaf-blind. Qualifying applicants include K-12 school personnel serving these students, their families, and others whose use of the media benefits at least one such student. Fill out your no-cost application* and view thousands of items on the Internet or receive DVD copies through the U.S. mail!
